CONTIVITY 1050 Setup "HELP"

I am very new to this whole VPN thing.
I have just recently purchased a Nortel Contivity 1050.
It is connected to a DSL modem.
I have connected the 1050 to our network.
I can ping the 1050 if I use the internal IP 192.168.254.xxx plus I can access the internet also.
I have an External Real IP on the 1050 also.
How do I connect to the 1050 form outside via the internet?
I want to set it up so I can use it as a gateway so
I can login from outside via the internet to get to my WIN2K file server.
I am really new to this so any help is greatly appreciated.

You will need the Nortel VPN client s/w that is on the cd supplied with your 1050.
PLEASE read the documentation on the cd;this will explain a lot of questions you will have.

I have done that.
Every time I try to connect to the 1050
it comes back saying no response.
