Ok, I'm having an issue with a 2003 Server after installing an updated Iomega REV driver. The server runs on an IBM eserver xseries 226 platform. I downloaded and installed this driver earlier today to "fix" a weird issue I was having with my REV drive. After the driver install was complete, I was forced to restart. Upon doing so, I was never able to actually get back into Windows. I tried all the safe modes, and even tried last known good. I also booted to the 03 server disk, and went into the repair utility hoping to manually delete the drivers that caused this to happen, only to find out that the program files directory, amongst many others, is locked from the repair console. I'm currently in the process of installing 03 server on a new drive, hoping to use the other, RAID drives, as slaves and delete the files that way. Any other suggestions would be great.

A great tool to use would be Knoppix. It is a live CD (linux) that will auto mount your system drives etc... the newest version supports write access to NTFS so this should allow you to remove the drivers from the system.

Another question... have you had any luck even booting into Windows under any of the safe modes? If so, did you try disabling the Iomega service and setting it to manual if there is any and rebooting. Maybe if the service isn't started this could assist you. I had a similar issue with an APC software upgrade.

I'm afraid deleting the driver files is not going to solve your problem, the registry entries that point to these files are loaded up at start up and may cause the blue screen and when booting the server. You may have to reinstall and restore system state from backup.

If booting in Safe Mode is not working for you, you should be able to disable device drivers via the Recovery Console by using the listsvc command. Give this is a try first
Hope this helps.

once in the recovery console, after using the listsvc command, what is the command to disable the drivers I want disabled, and how do I know which ones are associated with Iomega REV? TY for all the suggestions... Also, would a repair on the OS solve this problem without any data loss?

The problem is I don't think Automatic Backup Pro runs as a service.

itsp1965 - the listsvc command worked like a charm. Once I was able to see the list of services that were starting during the boot process, I was able to disable the one I suspected to be causing the problem. This worked like a charm... Thank you VERY much for the help. You saved me big time. :)
