Continuous Beeping and hangs on windows screen

Ok first off the computer makes beeping sounds not an error beep but like a continuous beep when starting up. The beeps are not loud, very low pitched. It then goes to the "starting windows" screen and then just hangs. I have an extra HD with W2k installed on it, put that in, same thing. The beeps are when it checks memory, then displays the main memory clock speed, and when it is verifying DMI pool data. I tryed to unplug all the drives, mouse, keyboard, and PCI cards and same thing?? I have no idea what is wrong. Any Ideas?

Which MB or computer are you using?

The mobo is a MSI 2000, onboard sound, and video. The problem arose after starting the computer up after a few weeks of sitting around. The only thing that was changed in the computer while it sat was a CDRW drive was taken out, I put that back in and it still hangs.

Reseat the RAM and video card, and make sure the video card and CPU fans are running.

If those are ok, then replace the thermal compound on the CPU die and heatsink.

If no luck, then swap out each of the above components.

If no luck, then the MB may be bad.

Check for leaky capacitors:
Google 'leaky capacitors' for many excellent articles discussing this common issue.

I would also suggest bad capacitors as well.
Either from the power supply or mobo.

Ok on the capacitors, no leaks no bulge. Reseated ram, CPU fan runs. no fan for the video card. It has onboard sound and video. I have no idea what the problem is, my new problem, the bios has a password on them no idea what it is, I will have to ask my girlfriend if she knows, but I doubt she put the password on. I think if you take out the CMOS battery that resets the password, correct? I dont know when I go to the bios it makes the buzzing beep sound the whole time I am there trying passwords.

Are you sure the sound isn't coming from the hard drive? You can take the hard drive out, set it on a box, and check for sound.

Nope not the problem, already switched the HD. Still the same problem. I am lost here. when the beeping is happening the the lights by the PCI cards are red.???

Disconnect everything except the cpu and ram and see what happens.

Can you find the "CMOS" reset jumper? Quicker than the "battery removal" for password problems. Are you sure the sound isn't from a fan in the power supply? Even crazier (I have seen it), is the power supply vibration causing the case to "squeak"!

I started the computer with just Ram and CPU, no drives, no cards, nothing, still the same problem, weird long low pitched beeping/humming like always. The computer Wwent through the steps, got to where windows starts obviously got the Disk Fail error b/c no HD was connected.
Ok got into Bios, took out CMOS battery. Easy stuff. Restarted Looked around in Bios, nothing is screwed up. Everything seems to be fine in here.
I set a warning temp at 122F, it is really bouncing close to that temp. I think that this might have something to do with the problem. I am not sure with this. The beeping, humming sound is only when the computer first starts now with the bios screen only. Then it is gone. Unlike before when it would do it the whole time. I dont know what that was about. But the computer still wont start windows.

I would say the squeel (beep) is from bad capacitors and it is probably coming from the power supply.
You need to pin piont the location in which the sound is coming from.

Not sure which lights you're referring to, but those could be error lights. Check the manual for the motherboard (you should be able to download it if you no longer have it). It's possible that the specific lights or sequence will tell you more.

You should be able to go into bios and change the setting to "no alarm". and then reboot, just to see if this is causing the noise problem.
I would turn it off and go back into bios and re-set the warning so that you dont fry your cpu, its just that this way you can see if the problem is this bios setting or possibly even the bios warning you that the temp is getting close.
Also, in the manual, you should be able to find out what those red lights are referring to.
