Help!! I purchased 2 Magix R4.7 from a usually-reliable source (Metroline) and both of them, even with the flashcard installed, default to frigid start every time I turn them off for more than 60 seconds and then turn them back on again. Could I be missing something? I have done backups, restored them, changed cards, processors, etc and it keeps happening with both of the. Any suggestions greatly appreciated.

My guess is a jumper on the circuit board is not in the correct position to connect the super cap that backs up the memory chips. I tried searching the installation and maintenence manuals, but can't find an illustration with the jumpers marked, so, carefully examing the board and you may find it labeled.

If the jumper is not "missing" then the two batteries are "dead". What is the model# of the processor? It would say something like: 617W33, 617X33, etc.

The jumper would be located beneath the two batteries and cover 2 of 3 pins. If it is missing - your system can store no programming.

Lay the processor card down with the edge connector to your right and the component side of the board facing you. The plastic part of the blade will be on your left.

At the middle of the board and on the right hand side (and just above the edge connnector) are two DIP switches. Both switches should be in the up (open) position.

Everything else on the board is essentially a jumper, none of which should normally be messed with. But just so you know, every jumper should sit in the right position (provided that the proc card is still oriented the same way). In other words, every 3-pin cluster will have a jumper that bridges the middle and right pin.

There is one exception, however. In the middle of the board about 3½ inches from the bottom, you'll find a 4-pin arrangement. In this case the jumper bridges the rightmost two pins.

Wow - I would never have thought to look at jumpers, but that was the problem. Every jumper on the board was wrong. I laid my office switch next to it and matched them all up and it worked great. Thanks - yet again - :)

Correction!!! Correction!!! Correction!!!

The last jumper that I mentioned--the one in the middle of the board at about 3½" from the bottom--is actually a 3-pin cluster...not a four banger as I first mentioned. It is still special in that you DO NOT want to short the middle and right pins. In fact, you want to leave the jumper hanging on the right pin only OR remove it all together.

I apologize if my haste in replying caused a problem. If so, please let me know.

I actually took an R7 that I have in the office, laid them side by side, and made the jumpers identical. I have had the new system on the wall for 2 days with no problems so far, so I assume it is OK. If there were to be any problems due to jumpers in the wrong position, what would some of the symptoms be? Thanks.

They sell grey market junk to the general public, but they will give you technical support.

But I guess that's why you're here, right?

Wash, rinse, repeat.

In all fairness to them, I usually have no problems - in 3 1/2 years of buying rebuilt equipment from them. If anyone knows a better source, let me know.

I've also not had any real problems with hardware I've purchased from Metroline. Any issues have been delt with in a timely fashion.

From what I've heard, they were once an Authorized Avaya Business Partner, but, at some point, went Gray Market.

Discussions of Internet, Gray Market and local dealer purchases pop-up here and on other tech help sites from time to time.

If it ain't broke, I haven't fixed it yet.
