Hi, hope I have the right group...
Got any ideas on this one, I am stumped.

I am working with a blade thats not in a domain, but in a workgroup, its not running dns, dhcp or AD. The blade has a computer name and a fully qualified computer name including path. This fully qualified computer name is represented in the registry in HKLM\system\currentcontrolset\services\tcpip\parameters\NV Domain, and I assume a host file entry somewhere.

So when you right click computer and go to properties, computer name changes, in computer name, the name itself is present. Right under the name in the white box is the full qualified computer name in grey. When the NV Domain entry disapears, I lose the full qualified computer name in grey. it appears blank. the blade keeps its computer name in the white box.

So, now and then, for no apparent reason, the NV Domain entry goes away in the registry and the blade loses its fully qualified name. I can run a script to put the name back and boot, but why does it disappear?

I have trailed down what all I have written, BUT I can not figure out whats removing this entry. a script, a human, or what???

Got any ideas on where I can look, or how I can capture the event to stop it from taking the entry out??
