Hello,

To begin, I have searched the threads and not found a clear answer to my question.

A client wants to install an application called RJH Extensions (
This app provides additional context menu entries when in explorer, such as copy/paste/copy to clipboard/DOS Prompt here, etc.

The problem is that it works normally on our IBM desktops, but not at all on our Gateways.

My predecessor sent emails on this issue stating he'd used RegMon to see if the issue is registry-based, but found nothing to suggest the registry as a solution path.

I have been asked to come up with a solution for this by end-of-week (sigh) but have found nothing useful so far. Any thoughts, hints, solutions etc. would be appreciated.

Thank you,

What error message or such do you see on the Gateways but not the IBM machines?

Is there any Bios virus scanning on the Gateways?

Thanks for the reply linney. No error as such -- but the additional context menu items are available on the IBM desktops, and on the Gateways the context menu remains the same after installation of the rjh app.

No, no bios virus scanning -- good call though; I should've thought of that one too grrr ..

What if anything do Gateway have to say on the matter, not a lot I suppose?

It would be beneficial to know a comparison of the software running on both machines. The feeling I have is that some type of security is preventing the additions to the right-click menu.

What you could do is look at other programs or registry settings which add similar functions to the menu. Perhaps adding each desired function, one at a time, may give you an idea of what is failing.

Try this if you like. Add Command Line to the Right Click

has long been regarded as the best registry tweaker on the market.

This option lets you add a "DOS Prompt Here" option to the context menus of folders and drive root folders respectively.

Not a lot" is correct! :)

The software is (excepting vendor-specific apps) identical on both machines: loaded from a brand-specific ghost images with the same OS/app load, etc.

For kicks, I noted all the entries made by the install of this rjh app on the IBM in the registry (name & guid) and did an export/import to the Gateway. No joy still.

Sigh. I'll try your suggestions in the morning & advise.

thanks!

Are the registry permissions allowing appropriate access?

This is a handy application for right-click problems, it shows you details of shell extensions installed on your computer.

linney,

Your idea to use shellexview is great - making progress this morning!

thanks,

Well if you eventually solve the problem, let us know the cause so we can have a record of it for the next Gateway user to come down this track.
