Content Filtering Issue

Hello,

We have a client whom is having an issue with incoming email. Some of their incoming is being blocked because of content filtering. The sending will get an NDR from our exchange box. However, we don't see any words/customizations within the content filtering tab within the hub transport. This started happening recently. They're not using any messaging security other than a local Symantec endpoint for spam.

2 questions:

1 - Is there a way to prevent exchange from sending an NDR and for the mail to be passed thru to a 'junk email' folder?

2 - Should we be looking elsewhere for content filtering?

Thanks!

You want to change the aggressiveness of the content filter to a higher number--if it's at 6, you probably want to change it to 8, for example. You can do that in the GUI. If you want it to go to the "junk email" folder, you'll want to globally enable junk mail for your users and configure the SCL level to a lower number than the content filter, like 6. That way items ranked 6 or 7 would go into the user's junk mail.

To do that you could use this script:
set-organizationconfig -scljunkthreshold 6

If you wanted to do this for a specific mailbox, you could do this:
get-mailbox joeuser -sljunkenabled:$true -scljunkthreshold 6
