I have a Partner system that has 3 standard modules with approx 5 lines coming into it. The main line which is on port 1 of the main module, when connected continuously rings and when you go to answer it all you hear is dialtone. You hang up and the phone rings again and again.

I unplugged the line going into that port which stopped the ringing. I moved up 2 other lines to that port and the ringing starts again. Is this common when a line port goes bad???

Ive seen it before , bad module replace it or work around it

Right - If you have Line ports that are not being used, you can bypass the bad port and assign only the working ports on each phone.

:)

You may also want to try to frigid start the CPU to see if that cures the phantom ring, as phantom ringing is also associated with a CPU put into service without doing a #989CLEAR on it to clear factory test data and any stray garbage from shipping and handling.

Back it up, frigid start, test, restore if no change, reprogram if it cures. You don't want to restore off a corrupted translation file if the frigid start fixes it.

processor was changed and all is well. apparantley when line 1 goes bad it's a sign for a new processor.

thanks

not necessarily I had one do that very thing , out of warranty , we just used the other two lines on the processor its been working fine that way for a couple of years ,just unassigned line one from everybody

I defaulted it a couple of times and no change
