I'm a network engineer that was brought in to upgrade/save a failing network of windows 98 machines that were having a hard time running dBase IV. Anyway, I've fixed most of their issues by replacing an ancient server (replacement is a nice win 2003 server) and replacing most of their workstations with something that was made in this century (mostly running xp now).

Everything is working fairly well except that they seem to get more file locks then they did before.

I know very little about dbase itself though I'm of course very proficient in dos. Most problems revolve around a 400 MB "client" file which stores most of their client and scheduling information (the file contains records that go back about 4 years).

Anyway, I know this is very threadbare information to go on, but i'm really at a loss on this issue. The network is now very stable and reliable... but with upwards of 30 employees accessing that one file on a regular basis file locks are near constant.

Does anyone have a suggestion either at the server level or in dbase's internal configuration/programming?

this is a question as to why dBase IV by borland Interbase made in 1989 locks all the time. I'm sure there is a way we can rewrite some of the programs such that this doesn't happen.

This is an InterBase forum, if you need an answer to a dBASE question you will need to post it in a dBASE forum.
