HI....running a Netware 5.0 server.SP5.0.5.( on a Compaq ML370 ) It is only used as a file and print services server with the exception of 2 financial packages and Unix to Netware print gateway. I am seeing a constant Processor Utilization of between 35 and 60 percent and almost always a few dirty cache buffers..... Is there a way to see what threads or NLM's may be using the processor? or is this just normal? Maybe something stuck in a loop? It was just rebooted within the past two days to see if that would help... My other servers are never showing that consistant utilization...and this one just started doing this...havent installed anything new.... Thanks to anyone who can help!!

Are you running the latest NSSD (including LAN driver updates)?

Also, the Unix to NetWare print gateway - is this SAA? -----------------------------------------------------
"It's true, its damn true!"

I am not running any of the Compaq Insight Manager stuff..( assuming thats what NSSD is part of? I'm not familiar with that term ) And the Unix to Netware print services are part of my Netware NFS and not SAA......( I used to run SAA a while back but on a different server) whats really puzzling is the fact that this seemed to just start out of nowhere...in fact this particular server had not been rebooted for 230 days......I'm almost wondering now if one of my users has an application hanging out there and doesnt realize it and this all may just go away when they decide to finally shut down their computer? What is tough is that we are a 24/7 company and its difficult for me to have everyone log off and any one particular time.... I am sooo appreciative of your suggestion and quick response........if there is anything else you may think of I will certainly try it!!

I had a similar situation on 3 production servers (all had 60% utilization)

I am running Netware 5.1 and it happened after service pack 4 was installed. It ended up being the Java component (prior to 1.3). After java was unloaded, everthing went back to normal.

After the Java upgrade, everything remained normal (did the Java upgrade for eDirectory).

BTW, you can check your running threads through your console monitor. Go to Kernel / Threads and you can see the threads for each processor running.

Hope this helps.
