First some system specs...
I run a PIII 933 from Micron, 256 RAM, WIN 2000, 2 hard disks, one a 30 GIG(master) and the other a 13 GIG(slave).

I just recently switched from WIN ME to WIN 2000 during the process i switched out the hard drives, and in pulling out the IDE cable it looks like i bent one of the pins on the back of the hard disk. It looks like pin 2 but im not sure on that. But before i did this, even with the new WIN 2000 OS it worked normaly, and ever since i bent that pin the hard disk light is constantly on, from the time i boot up to the time i shutdown. I have read though many fourumns and it is not the cach or the system is busy doing somthing or anyhting like that. This is a fresh install and there is nothing that could be running. Both hard disks work normaly and read and write just fine, but the light is constantly on. Its not a big deal but i just dont like that light being on all the time becasue there may actually be a problem, so please any guesses would be accepted, thanks very much...

Hi there,
Well if everything is working fine and you just want the light off then, you probably already know this, just pull the power of the HDD status on the motherboard. It should be somewhere near the battery or in the mess of small wires connecting to the MB. I think in most cases its named HDD or HDD PW, which wil be marked on the MB its self or the connector which covers the jumpers. It won't hurt the drive at all if you pull this off. But, do you hear HDD activity constantly? If so, this for sure won't make a difference in activity..
Good Luck

Does Win2000, like XP, have "File Indexing". If so check that it is not enabled. That had me baffled in XP for a while. It was causing the symptoms you described, most annoying. Just my guess, hope it helps. :)

I found in other forumsn that the problem might be a kink in the IDE cable. I opened up my box and sure enough the cable was kinked. I found a brand new IDE cable and replaced it, and the light will still not og off. I know it is not actually working becasue i felt the drive and it wasnt working, then i opened up some files and then i could feel it working. SO i know it is not indexing or running find fast or somthing like that. It really isnt a big deal but i dont want the light on, and i dont want to just cut the LED becasue i want it to show normal activity. But thanks for all your help sofar, snootalope and mintaka. Hopefully this can be fixed...and like i said before everything is working fine it reads and writes just fine, but the stupid light wont go off, ever. thanks you guys.
