Hi,

Been using Netware since 1.x days - still not an expert but very comfortable with NWAdmin. When we installed NW6, I was encouraged to use ConsoleOne and admittedly have resisted it. Two primary reasons are:

1) It seems so much more tedious to maneuver and accomplish what seems so accessible in NWAdmin

2) It loads so slo I can easily open NWAdmin, find my users, make changes and close it in less time than it takes ConsoleOne to open up and settle in on my desktop.

Is this because I'm doing something wrong or is it the way it is?

Thanks, gillis

Hi.
ConsoleOne can be a bit slow, but it's faster than it used to be :)

The biggest thing that you can do to speed it up is, instead of running it from the server, download it from novell's web site & run it locally on your PC.

It's pretty snappy on my PIII 500 w/128MB RAM, so, hopefully, you will have a pleasant experience as well

Thanks a bunch, Bill!!

Tried your suggestion, downloaded v1.3.4 and installed locally. It now loads the way I would expect it to. Now I guess it's up to me to simply get used to it.

Thanks again,

gillis

To Bill (Psychoid) if you're out there today...

Good morning,

I just noticed something when using the "local" install of ConsoleOne - Not everything is there. My Groupwise domain containing the GWIA and MTA have a (?) mark on the icon and the properties are not all there to administer.

Even though I'm running this locally, I assume it can find all the parts and pieces of the network?

If you have any suggestions, they would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks, gillis

From what I have seen. CSone will remumber what you have used but if you are not loged on to it the next time it will show it but with the ?. that is what i get with my GroupWise.

Hi again.
I failed to mention that you need to install the snapins.
In the words of Homer Simpson, "DOH"

You can download ConsoleOne snapins from Novell's download site. There are snapins for just about every product that they make.

Read the help file for each snapin for installation instructions. Most snapins, though, can be installed by just unzipping the contents into c:\novell\consoleone\1.2

Sorry about the oversight

Thanks Bill,

That explains the ConsoleOne download instruction that says "install only the snap-ins you need..." I should have picked up on that. Will go back to the site and shop a bit more.

Thanks again for your help,

It's greatly appreciated.
