Hello... I´m trying to connect to a BayStack 450 24 ports. I'm using Hyperteminal to connect with a DB-9 cable. Nortel gives this recommendations:
-- 9600 baud --> Ok
-- No parity --> Ok
-- 8 bits --> Ok
-- 1 stop bit--> Ok
-- Flow control set to Xon/Xoff --> Ok
-- Window Terminal Emulator option set to NO --> HOW TO DO??
-- Terminal Preferences: Function, Arrow, and Control keys active --> HOW TO DO??
-- Buffer size set to 24 --> Ok

Please helpme to configure the Window Termital emulator and Preference...

Perhaps off topic but my most common problem with Nortel's console cable was that they used straight through cabling, where everyone else (Cisco) used null modem wiring. Oddly, if you buy a null modem adapter, the normal console cable goes back to straight through and works again.

I tried to remain child-like, all I acheived was childish.

Settings look correct. Terminal emulator options shouldn't matter. As mentioned, use a straight through cable. When connected, press control and y to draw the initial login screen.

Every one is correct. Use the Serial straight thru cable,
you may need a gender bender to plug into the 450-24T.
9600 baud, 8bits, No parity, 1 Stop bit.

Do yourself a favor and get a copy of ProComm for your
terminal emulator. It is SO MUCH EASIER to use than the
Hyperterm crap.

Power on. You should see a quick self test after about
15 seconds. The default login is: Manager
Notice the uppercase M

If that does not work, there is a way to clear the password, but it requires you have another 450-24T that
you know the password of, it MUST have the same version of
software that your password locked 450-24T is running, and
you will need two stacking modules, and one cable to connect the stacking modules.

Make the 450-24T that you know the password of the MASTER
switch. (look for a switch on the stacking module) and
power it up FIRST. Then power up the other 450-24T.

After you log into the 450-24T that you know the password of
you should "eventually" see a menu, and one of the choices
will be to reset the configuration on all the switches in
the stack. Select that and wait for the magic to happen.

Power cycle the previously password locked 450-24T and you
should be able to log into it with just "Manager" or what
ever username and password your known switch has.
