Console No Output 1

I've connected to the console port on a Summit 300-24. I've got putty connected to COM1 with 9600 baud, 8 data bits, 1 stop bit, no parity, XON/OFF flow control enabled. But when I turn on the switch, I don't get any response or welcome screen what so ever.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Are you using an Extreme console cable or a null modem cable. Oddly enough I am trying to figure out how to do a RJ45 ro RJ45 console connection to an extreme switch so you may see my post too.
