I have a Baystack 350 24T. I went to make a console connection today and I get nothing. I have powered the unit off & on to no avail. Has anyone seen this happen before? The console was working just a couple of weeks ago (FYI, I never setup the in-band ip so I can't telnet). I'm connecting from a Win2000 professional using hyperterm; settings 9600, 8, none, 1, hardware.

Thanks!

Have you tried a cross over cable?
Have you tried another Nortel Cable?

NOTE*** Nortel won't tell you this. If you are using an old console cable with a new switch or router, it won't work the pinouts are different.

Dear Slim/camp

first i want to contradict the statment given by CAMP, to try with cross cable. It will not work as slim has mentioned that he has not given any inband ip for telnetting.U can only use cross cable when u have assigned any ip to it.

now slim, first check the console cable with which u r trying to log in .

check if switch is getting hanged frequently then OS proclem is there which is hanging u r console port.

if switch is working fine then check the earthinh supply which might have failed u r console port.

BEST OF LUCK

Try changing flow control top none. Had a couple of 450's that I could not get into until I did this.
Something to try at least.
My suggestions are what I would try myself. If incorrect, I welcome corrections to my knowledge.

Try setting flow control to none.

By the way, old console cables work.

I make console cables for Nortel gear, and I can tell you that the same console cable I made in 1997 works on 2002 BPS2000s 450s 350s, etc.

Also you will need Win2k SP2 to make Hyperterminal work correctly with the menu system on Baystacks
