... trying to install RealPlayer and Java as mozilla plugins.
... downloaded java and realplayer bin files into separate new /tmp/realplayer and a /tmp/java dirs. Bash then shows (only) these dir names with a dark green background (what does that mean?).
But the console cannot not see into those dirs-- although MC (Midnight Commander)and KDE file manager can. They see the bin files and also the java files, such as the plugin files.
Using bash cd command or ls (or ls -l) command just errors out to "No Such File or Dir". Again, file manager and MC can *see* them.
Is this a permissions issue?
I downloaded from root console, have changed the perms to 777 (all users & groups r/w/x), changed users & group ownership to root and user. No change: the console cannot see them and the dirs show in bash with a dark green background.
Any thoughts?
