hi folks,

I'm trying to get my employer to start using SQL Server 2000 RS.

We do have uses for it - especially for web-based reports, but I have to convince (as in SHOW) them.

But we don't yet have VB.net so we will have to buy a few licenses for that for the developers.

I guess my question is... Is the RS "add-in" for 2000 very good? We don't plan to upgrade to 2005 for quite awhile, so I'm hoping the answer is yes.

Thanks. John

The RS add-in for 2000 is acceptible. You have to realize that it is the beta version of RS 2005, so there are features not included in it that are included in 2005. For what we've been using it for, it's been good. If your reports are basic, you shouldn't have too much trouble. However, if you need a lot of chart controls, etc., the 2000 add-in doesn't have a lot of them.

On the other hand, if you can get a copy of Reporting Services 2005, it can be run on SQL Server 2000 with Visual Studio .Net 2003. You'll have a lot of the new functionality and don't have to worry about upgrading to SQL Server 2005.
