Have a few questions about Cisco solution

1#
Vendor states "typical voip call 80K and with compression can be in the 32K range but do no recommend it."

I am assuming 80K equates to g711 with overhead?

What are other compression options and approx bandwith

They want the cisco phone to act as a local 10/100 switch to the desktop at that location

Is the phone truly acting as a switch or merely a hub?
Can you bottle neck if you are transfering a huge file?
Is there a gigabit option on the phone?

Thanks in advanced.

1. g729 is 26k so you could use g729 as a lower codec to save bandwidth.

2. the phones ARE two port switches and not hubs. If you were to download a "huge" file the phone will throtle the download (QoS) by tagging the data traffic with lower priority than the voice, therefore give the voice priority in and out of that port.

Yes there is a GIG option on the 7941/61/71 sets and there is a GE at the end of the part to distinguish that.

You would need to be connected to a Gig switch port obviously!
