Hi,

We would like to rename 1 of our SQL Server 2000 (Standard)databases.

As DBA, I've asked them to wait until I can do some research on what may happen because we renamed it.

Do you know of any gotchas that could come up?

Any diff between using the sp_renamedb versus restoring old db name to a new db name?

Thanks, John

... some more info.

This db is NOT being replicated.

Will our DTS packages still work? Obviously, anywhere we have "hard-coded" the database name will have to be changed.

But what are the not so obvious dis-advantages of renaming a database?

thanks for your opinions, John

you will have to update all your connections in your DTS packages. Where I work we use UDL's that way we just have to update a single connection.

thanks for the heads-up MDXer,

Also I've discovered that any job that was created from a Database Maint Plan will have to be modified... ouch !

Can you go into some more detail on the User Data Link file?
Sounds like something I should be using to make the next db name change go a bit easier.

Thanks, John
