Consequences of removing an SP nodes switch adapter card 1

Hi,

I posted a question regarding a duff elderly SP wide node some time ago (
The node was an MCA pre-Winterhawk designation unit, described by "splstdata -n" as a "135_MHz_P2SC_Wide" i.e. really, really old.

This node wouldn't boot/respond to s1term etc. An engineer determined that the switch adapter MCA card was at fault (having removed every card to get to a minimum config which booted, and then adding each component back until he identified the failing part). We don't use SP clustering - each node is simply a standalone server.

Does anyone know what consequences are likely to result from removing this card? The node multi-user boots but has crashed with a MISC_ERROR (Description MISCELLANEOUS INTERRUPT). Getting a replacement MCA switch adapter card is proving to be a tough task, and if I can get away without installing a replacement, I like to keep it that way (I'm going to decommission the node at the first opportunity).

Are there any node services/daemons that are no longer required and can be disabled on the node, or any configuration that should be performed on the CWS to account for the switch adapter card not being present?

Thanks in anticipation

Adding to my own query.

css0 is removed from the node and I've run SDRArchive and then "hmreinit" on the CWS to restart hardmon and update the SDR.

You would have to delete the switch adapter so it doesn't recognize it anymore.

The HPS (based on the age of your nodes I would say it isn't an SP Switch) is optional and therefore wouldn't have to be used. If your requirements are fast communication between nodes and large bandwidth to move large amounts of data, then you would probably want the switch. But since you are a LAN in a can, nah.

To delete the adapter run (man for syntax):
SDRArchive
spdeladap (for css0)
spbootins -r customize
reboot node
