To all,

It seems that when NT 4.0/ Win2000 workstations are idle for a short time they are disconnecting from the network until the user continues to work. Have terminal emulation software on workstations that must remain connected at all times.

Originally had one Cisco 2924-xl-en and two unmanaged Netgears and had no problems.

I have retired the unmanaged switches and installed (1) c3508g and (1) c3548 along with the c2924

The 3508g is connected to 3548 with ws-x3500xl gigastack modules and the 2924 is connected to the 3548 with a crossover cable. (1) NT 4.0 server and (1) Win2000 server are on the 3508g with 1000base-t (ws-5483 modules. Had to enable span-tree portfast on port for the NT server, per Microsoft.

Don't know if its a coincidence that I am also unable to create a cluster with these switches. After creating a command switch there are no members available to add.

IP 3508g xxx.xxx.xxx.7 IOS c3500xl-c3h2s-mz.120-5.WC5.bin
IP 3548 xxx.xxx.xxx.8 IOS c3500xl-c3h2s-mz.120-5.WC5.bin
IP 2924 xxx.xxx.xxx.9 IOS c2900xl-c3h2s-mz.120-5.WC3a.bin
Password is the same for all three

Any help on this would be greatly appreceated.

Thanks,
Danny

Do a show log on the switch that has the connected computers having the problem. Look to see if any interfaces go up and down. Also do a show interfaces and see if any ports are experiencing any input or output errors.

Baddos,

Checked the logs on all 3 switches and nothing seems wrong. Did find that when you ping from one switch to the other there is no reply, try a couple of times and then no problem for a few minutes, then no connectivity again.

Any idea's

Danny

More to add

The problem seems to be with the connection between the 3508 and the 3548 which are using the gigastack modules.

Anyone have any input on the proper config for a point to point connection between switches using ws-x3500-xl modules.
