I was wondering if you could help me out with a problem we are having.

We have a Alteon 2208 with OS 23.0.2 in a Layer 3 set up.

Now we want to add a couple of real servers behind the load balancers (to which clienst have to be able to connect to using a VIP) but these real servers have to be able to connect to VIPs (other VIPs) of the same load balancer.

The problem is that the reals behind these VIPs (VIP1) will respond to the source address (the new reals) so the connections back to the new reals wil go directly and not via the load balancers (directly connected) and creating a asymteric connection.

Any thoughts?

I'm not sure what your setup is, but it sounds like you are trying to get real server responses to route back through the Alteon.

Try looking at proxy IP or submac.

Proxy IP substitutes the source IP with an IP address from the Alteon causing L3 traffic to return via the Alteon.
/cfg/slb/pip

Submac substitutes the source MAC address with the MAC of the Alteon causing L2 traffic to return via the Alteon.
/cfg/slb/adv/submac
