I've connected a modem to the NIU (MD110 BC11)
I've given the command IOEQI:IODEV=XXXX,EQU=XX-XX-XX-01,USAGE=MML,AUTH=7;
Modem has automatic answering on it.
If I want to connect to this modem via Winfiol I can't make a connection with the MD. It is the correct cable between the modem and the NIU so that can not be the problem. Did I forget something or do I have some settings wrong in Winfiol?

Did you give the modem any at commands from
pc connected to it prior to connecting it to the NIU,

Say that from your office you call that modem and
get connect 33kbps .If that modem uses the
connected line speed to transfer the SSSS towards it's
V.24 port you cant get logged in.

NIU supports 9600 , 19200 , and 38400 .(not 14kbs 28kbs 33kbs)

Modem on MD:
Program it from a pc with a terminal emulator
like winfiol ,hyperterminal etc
Make sure the winfiol , hyperterm is setup with
9600,19200 or 38400 .
Key in ATS0=1E0&W&Y

Now the modem dont echo messages to the NIU port
and it use the speed from the last AT command
to the V.24 port on incoming a call session even if line
connect is 28800 or 33000.

Only way you can connect now is to force your dialup to
connect as 9600 or 19200.

we make extensive use of 33kbps modems here.
few tips & rules :
-ALWAYS connect modem to NIU port 1 , this is the only port that supports hardware handshaking signal.
-you can setup the baudrate towards your modem to 38400 baud
but then it is best to activate compression & buffering (AT commands depend on modem type, could be something like this AT%C3\N1 or AT&k3&m5 or ...)

greetings,

Hi,
Modem only is connected to NIU port 1 in MD110 BC11.

The modem is connected to the first port on the NIU. I think everything is configured ok but I am not able to make a connection towards the MD110. How do I have to configure Winfiol? Maybe I have got some settings wrong?

Via Hyperterminal I can make a connection. But am not able to send any characters I only get the (flashing vertical line for entering data)

quote: winfiol settings :

protocol : RS-232
setup : COMx (select right comport)
38400 baud
8 databits
1 stopbit
no flow control
DTR,RTS enabled
/quote

I have to dial in from outside towards an extension number. How do I have to set up winfiol for that?

to whosrdaddy,
I wouldn't recommend to connect modem on port1. We used to use westermo modems on port one, it locks up NIU port now and then. It works fine on port2 and port3. Interesting .....

you MUST set the modem in QUIT mode (ATQ1), the niu doesn't like the modem messages lik "RING", " CONNECT" and so on. we use several types of modems with no problems whatsoever.

port 2 and 3 is lacking hw crtl and circuits.
Can be used by modems with xon/xoff setup only .

tty1
As mentioned earlier, the SCC2 channel which can handle both asynchronous and synchronous communication as well as higher data rates (up to 2 Mbit / s).

The tty1 supports the following interface circuits.

TXD, RXD Transmit and receive data circuits
RCLK, TCLK Clock circuits used for synchronous communication.
DSR, DTR Data Set Ready, Data Terminal Ready handshake circuits
RTS, CTS Request To Send, Clear To Send handshake circuits
DCD Data Carrier Detect

tty2 / (BDM)
The SMC1 is used by tty2 to support asynchronous communications.

TXD, RXD Transmit and receive data circuits
DSR, DTR Data Set Ready, Data Terminal Ready handshake circuits

The connector is the 2nd one from top of the upper front connector, (pos. 2CD). It has pins assigned for tty2 port and or BMD (Background Modified Debugging) port, as follows.

tty3 / (debug)
The SMC2 is used by tty3 to support asynchronous communications.

TXD, RXD Transmit and receive data circuits
DSR, DTR Data Set Ready, Data Terminal Ready handshake circuits

The connector is the 3rd one from top of the upper front connector, (pos. 2EF). It has pins assigned for tty3 port and or debug port as follows:
