Connection to Symposium via Sybase client

Does anyone know how to connect to the SECC Sybase database?
I've been asked to provide connection information for reporting purposes.

Also, does anyone have any opinions (based on experience) on whether such a connection is a good practice or not? The consultant who set up our environment advised us against accessing the database via the Sybase client directly but since he's no longer here, people are asking for access again.

Connection can be setup via an ODBC connection.
Since you will only read the data from the blue database I believe there is no risk in using a direct connection to the Symposium dtabase (done this for years now).

If an ODBC connection is setup you can use Excel, MS Acces or Crystal Reports to connect to the Symposium database.
