This problem just started a couple of days ago. We are using the server only as a file server, no one actually logs into the domain. But everyone's username and password are on the server and the connection modes are set to classic - local users authenticate as themselves. Everything has been fine until last week. Now to access shares on the file server we must add "domain\" (where domain is the domain listed in the server settings) and if we don't the username/password is rejected. Some users have links set up with IP addresses, ex: \\192.168.0.1\folder and they cannot access the files no matter what they put in the username field.
