I have created a bunch of reports in MS Visual Studio 2005 and they run fine when I connect through VS. However when I deploy them (along with the same datasource) to my local Sql Server Reporting Server instances and try and run them I get the following error:
* An error has occurred during report processing.
Cannot create a connection to data source 'Checkpoint'.
ORA-12154: TNS:could not resolve the connect identifier specified

I can connect to the Oracle server through SQL client also, so I think it is something to do with SSRS.

PXXX.XXXXX =
(DESCRIPTION =
(ADDRESS_LIST =
(ADDRESS = (PROTOCOL = TCP)(Host = XXX.X.XXX.XXX)(Port = 1520))
)
(CONNECT_DATA =
(SID = PXXX)
(GLOBAL_NAME = PXXX.oracledb.XXX.com)
(SDU = XXXX)
(TDU = XXXX)

Any help appreciated and urgent.

Thank you

Hi swenri,

The Oracle client (OLE DB drivers etc.) will need to be installed and configured on the Report Server as well as your workstation. From what you say it sounds like you have the Oracle client correctly configured on your workstation, hence the reports run in VS, but not on the server.

Can you find a "TNSNAMES.ORA" file on the report server? Check that the contents match the settings you quoted above, if not you'll need to set up the server to match.

cheers, Nathan
