Please clarify because I really want to use MySQL.

We have MySQL 4.1 on our Windows server but can not get it loaded or a client gui on my local workstation due to security issues with my company.

How can I create a database from my client workstation?
Do I just send the SQL to create my database to the Server admin and let him fun it from an MySQL command line?

Or can I use our Access Database GUI and connect to MySQL?
Please advise.

If you can install MySQL ODBC Connector (available from the MySQL site) on your machine and successfully connect it to the server, then you should be able to access the database via any ODBC-aware client, like OpenOffice.org, MS Access, etc.

Sending your SQL to the sysadmin for him to run doesn't sound very feasible; you will probably need to do quite a bit of testing, and having to go through a middle-man just increases the amount of work and possibilities for misunderstandings and mistakes.

Thanks,

I assume if I get the MySQL ODBC Connector on my local workstation then I can use my local MS Access GUI to connect to the MySQL on the server? The connection would be a mapping connection to the MySQL database located on the server from my local workstation??
