I am having trouble viewing pages on a LAN.
I
use NT W4.0 and the pages are hosted on
NTS4.0
and i need to view over a LAN. I can
view the
first page OK, but when i try to
go to another
link - it wants to Dial outside
- which means i
have to be connected to the
INTERNET to view
files on the INTRANET. Does
anybody know the
fix for this??

Thanks in advance.

It may be that the other pages are hosted on another server with an IP address that is not considered local to you or cannot be reached through your currently assigned default gateway. At which case the computer wants to dial out to get to it.

You may want to take a look at the route table " route -p" to see what routes and gateways are configured.

Do you have Lan access to the internet? Do you use a firewall or proxy server? If so, you may need to modify the Lan Connection settings of IE to include the domains that are internal. Do any other computers have a problem accessing these pages?

Doug
dxd_2000@yahoo.com

thanks for replying Doug

There are no pages that contain an outside IP Address, I do not dial through an internal modem to get to the internet not through the lan i do not use a firewall nor a proxy server (If i did I probably would not have this problem Go Figure! :) ) and yes I have not been able to setup any computer to do this (some network manager hey!) They work fine as long as i dont assign a dial up account to an ISP, as soon as i do it dials outside as a default. I even tried to create a seperate dial up just to the server but to no avail.

Cheers
Albi
