Not certain this is the correct forum, but:

Windows XP Home Edition Service Pack 3
ATI Function Driver for High Definition Audio - ATI AA01
Realtek High Definition Audio

Same issue, two places -
1. I connect to the Verizon's VZAccess Manager (aircard); when the Manager opens, a VERY LOUD, obnoxious percussive electronic sound happens (can hardly call it a tone or a beep); Manager's options/settings has nothing related to it; Verizon tech says they've never heard of such before and it has nothing to do with their aircard.
2. The "master" volume control for my PC seems to be RealTek HD Audio Manager volume control (don't really understand how sometimes things show up on my PC; for example, on an older Windows OS, don't remember which -- there have been SO MANY wonderful versions since I was a kid (!), there apparently was a "master volume" control of some sort imbedded in the Windows program, so that was what I'd use...XP hasn't offered that up that I've seen; I've concluded that now RealTek's program provides that function); whenever I move the volume slider up or down, the VERY LOUD sound happens here too -- only in this case it's a distinctive "beep" (or, should say "BEEEEEP!!!!!)

The only operational difference I've been able to sniff out is that when I removed RealTek from the system, these noises/sounds ceased to exist; reloaded RealTek, and they returned.

Any suggestions on how to remove these two irritating intrusions into my cyberlife?

Thanks! Appreciated.

1) Could it be the beep from your PC (not speakers)? Plug in some headphones (don't wear them) in place of the speakers. Connect to verizon - do you still hear the beep? Is it coming from the headphones or from the PC? If it is coming from the PC, you may be able to disable it in the BIOS. If it is coming from the headphones, then you probably need to find out what is causing it.

2) Run up the task manager to see what is running. Sort by CPU usage. Connect to verzion and see what runs. It is not a foolproof way but it does tell you what is running and what might possibly cause the beep.

Thanks. Sounds are in the headphones. Guess I'll keep sniffin' around.

If you plug in anything else, USB thumb drive or printer/camera, does the "annoying" sound happen again?

Sound is related to RealTek HD Audio; I can "mute" it on the RealTek control board; have contacted RealTek a number of times via their supposed (misrepresented) "customer support" about the issue, but am not deemed worthy of being given a response; need to figure out what an alternate audio program would be so I can jettison unRealTek.

Thanks for your response.

IF you uninstall the audio driver, re-download the Realtek drivers from the computer manufacturer's website, and unzip the file instead of running the .exe, can you manually install the driver without adding the Realtek utility and will it still make those sounds?
