NetWorker Savegroup: (alert) 2000 completed, 1 client(s) (client Failed)
Start time: Wed Mar 6 11:14:05 2002
End time: Wed Mar 6 11:16:10 2002

--- Unsuccessful Save Sets ---

* client:All 1 retry attempted
* client:All Connection refused

--- Successful Save Sets ---

server: index:client level=9, 106 MB 00:00:43 80 files

Yet I can run a manual backup with no problem

Any help is appreicated.

Most of the time, when you're able to do a manual
backup and not able to do a scheduled one, it is an
alias problem.

Try to edit client properties (alias field) for your backup server (SOLARIS) and for your client (WIN2K) and put all known names for those machines (hostname, hostname.domain,
alias, alias.domain ...).

Also, Legato recommend that clients are not on a higher version than the server.

Hi,

Remember that Networker works with TCP/IP and DNS. If your server or client have underscores in their respective NETBIOS names, you must put an entry in the host file of the system trying to connect to the machine that has the "underscored" name. DNS cannot handle the underscore character among others.

Microsoft allows you to setup NETBIOS names for your machines with underscores and then they use your NETBIOS name with DNS as the internet host name of the machine. Brilliant, eh ? (They also require that the DNS host name be identical to the NETBIOS name and then expect you to enter it in the DNS tab of the TCP/IP protocol properties window. Why didn't they omit that text box and use the NETBIOS name ? Insanity !!!)

My Networker server was setup with an "underscored" name before I got a hold of it. Now I can change the name, but it's a Windows NT 4.0 BDC and that would be painful. So I am forced to put an entry into each NT client's host file which identifies the Networker server.

I will have to change the name when we switch to WIn2k Active Directory.

Sigh !!!
