I have cable for internet and i have a motorola surfboard ip modem sbv4200. I have it conneted via usb. I also have a connedtion to my 3com card. When i go into control panel under network connections. I can check the status and both devices show packets sent and received. This means i have a good connection. When i go to run internet explorer i get the message page no found. I had this working at one time before my hard drive crashed. So, i know it works. There is one difference the last time i installed a driver for the modem from driverguide.com and everything worked. This time i installed the driver from motorola for some reason when i go to connect using setup it won't recognize the modem or if i do a hardware install it will not recognize the modem either. Anyways this does not seem to be the problem. I have good connections but, i still get page not found when i run internet explorer. Also if i installed a connection how do i remove it from network connections. Please help useless.

Why do you have it connected to your computer via the USB and the 3Com NIC card. Go to device manager and verify that the 3 Com card is working. Then set the modem up to use that card. Don't connect via the USB port, too. Some cable companies recognize device changes automatically, others require you to register the device. That device being your network card. Good luck!

another thing, you mentioned that the driver from driverguide.com worked but you had the motorola driver installed. Why not download the driver again from driverguide.com and install that again?

For your infor, if you are using non-Intel chipset mainboard, you could have compatible problems with some USB devices, and that include modem connected via USB.

Lstan, I dont doubt your word at all, but can you give me some instances of that happening? I didnt realize that non-intel boards made a difference. I do know that some usb chipsets are better than others, same as oxford chipset is about the best for firewire.
But what about the non-intel chipset motherboards. Are you talking about via chipset motherboards?

Hi garebo

Thanks for waking me up..... Actually, I am referring to the USB chipset and not the mainboard chipset.

So let me re-phase my post:

For your infor, if you are using non-Intel USB chipset, you could have compatible problems with some USB devices, and that include modem connected via USB.

The reason I made the above statement was because when I went to buy a broadband modem I was told by the sale staff that if my system USB chipset is non intel then it is advisable to get one that uses RJ45.

Personally, I am using a mainboard with VIA chipsets and so far all USB devices plugged in are working fine.

Ditto Tracee.

I know Blueyonder used to register your pc's via it's MAC address (may still do) on the card (you could add this yourself on the website). Therefore, if you were using the USB and have now switched to the 3com NIC it may not be registered, so they are denying access.

I take it you've contacted your ISP?

Only the truly stupid believe they know everything.

This could aswell be a mis-set TCP/IP stack or wrong IP Range, or Proxy Setting.... LSP's could aswell be wacked...

Thanks for all the input. I use timewarner cable for my provider roadrunner. I'm not sure if the NIC has to be registered i will have to contact my ip provider. Ben how is the IP range and proxy settings checked and how do i know if it is set right. Please let me know. Thanks again for all the help.

How do i set up the modem to use the NIC. I don't have any software can i use the driver program for the right set up.

Under Network Connections (sorry if I am a bit vague, I am using a foreign lang version of XP), ie. LAN, double click on the LAN connection, scroll down to TCP/IP click on it, go to extended, click the first checkmark (Obtain IP automatically)...

Proxy settings can be found under Internet Options, either through the Control Panel or through IE, under Connections make sure that the Proxy settings are deactivated....

I have just installed my new hard drive and installed a fresh copy of XP. After, installation i'm able to get on the interenet. I'm not sure if this is temporary. I still have to install my drivers and applications and i have to restart the computer this is were it went haywire on me. Also, my 3com has a boot agent that lets me boot to network, TCP/IP, EPX or SP something another. to configure it i just hold down ctr/alt/B. and gives me options to chose from. Would anyone know how this is to be set. Please let me know.
