connection problem in a two pcs lan

two pcs, both win2000 professinal. the host has two nics. one for connecting the boardband internet. ip address on that nic is distributed automatically. another nic direct connect another win2000 client. ip adress on the host is distributed manually which is 192.168.0.1 . two pcs shared the boardband internet. the host pc do not active the DHCP.
But if the client not accept DHCP which obtain the ip automatically , the client can't access to internet. Why? how to deal with that?
