Using a Belkin router on one end and connecting to a computer on the other end (three different NIC's tried) the computer never connects.
it is unable to receive an IP from the router. I have crimped the cable in a simple to remember pattern...not the "official" pattern. Will this effect the ability of longer cables to communicate? The shorter cables connect fine when crimped in the same way.
Will inferior Cat5e cabling (from Home Depot) cause problems at longer distances?
I had an old 5 port hub around and I tried sticking that in the middle, but it didn't fix it. Does a hub repeat like a switch?
