My boss recently replaced his old laptop with a new one and now has issues when using it in and out of the office. His laptop does not renew his IP address and cannot VPN or check Outlook. He now has to release then renew his IP every time he boots up in a different location to communicate with the server and to check Outlook. This was never the issue before and no other portable laptop has this issue.

Is there any way around this so that it automatically changes the IP? Our IT company said that we could change the IP scheme from the basic 192.168.1.x, which is probably the same at home, and instead use something different like 172.16.1.x. Or if that was too much trouble, they can come up with a script that can automatically release and renew the IP so that it only requires a shortcut.

Our company is a small business of only 5 workstations and a server using MS Server 2003.

Thanks in advance for any suggestions.

Did your boss change OS with the new laptop? What OS is he running?

Is he connecting over a wired or wireless network? At each location?

If his old laptop worked, and this one doesn't, there must be a difference in the configuration (probably of the laptop, but a different OS may behave differently).
