I am having a problem with a voice run. When I attach a cable tracer to the jack the blue pair can be found as normal at the wiring block, but when I punch down four pairs at the block they all seem to be picking up the signal and the brown pair seems to be the stongest. I can't get a phone to work on this run. This setup is working just fine on other runs.

Thanks,
John

i'd start with looking at how it was terminated on the station end. make sure the pairs are connected in the proper places. also, look at the pins where the phone actually plugs in to the jack to make sure they aren't bent out of place.

thanks, tim

Start at your jack and work your way back to the port or demarc. Disconnect as you go to rule out the jack, 4 pair, jumpers, ect.

I still can't figure this one out. I have checked all points of connection, but I can't seem to pin point what is going wrong. The jacks are connected properly, the block is correct, the cable is terminated properly before going into the IP Office 400 module. I have properly setup 16 other lines in this manner without a problem.

if you start and the 400 module, where does it stop working? right out of the module, or somewhere down the line. might try a different port and see if that makes any difference.

thanks, tim

Is the cable pinched somewhere and shorting out the pairs? Did you run the cable or was it already there?

The cable is already in place and the point of failure is at the IPO module. A signal is maintained from end to end, but when I connect this line into the module it does not work correctly. I can try another port. Are ports sometimes picky? I know they can be with data lines.

Could be a solder blob or a piece of loose wire that landed on the card.

I have seen two cases where a port caused really weird crosstalk.

One was a Meridian after a lightning strike. The problem was the passive back plain which was the last thing we suspected, of course.

I cannot recall the details of the second time, but I recall thinking how it was similar to the first time.

Good luck

Problem solved. I burned out the IP office port. I stupidly left the cable tracer on the other end when I connected the cable to the module. At least I know what went wrong.
