Connection is fine, but will not connect!

I am at school right now and my computer has been working fine on the ethernet. The other night I tried to install AOL adapters to my computer and since then I have not been able to get any of my internet applications to work. I have since removed the adapters and even removed and re-installed all of the adapters on my computer. I have removed AOL entirely from my computer, also. I am using an ethernet connection and it is all set up correctly. All of the hardware is fine, as well. There doesn't seem to be any signs of viruses or anything of that sort. When I try to sign onto Instant Messanger, the connecting screen entirely disappears and nothing happens. Internet Explorer and Netscape Navigator both act as though there is no internet connection. I am really confused and frustrated! Any help would be great!

Is this a school computer or your own? Either way, it serves you right for messing with AOL!!

Rip the lot out and start again from scratch.
