Is it possible to connect in a Merlin Magix with ip adress or is only possible with merlin messaging

Thank you

THey do make a product called Socket Magix which can enable IP to the admin port. I think it was very expensive the last time i looked at it. yes the merlin Messaging will take an IP if it is newer than release 1 i think.

Doesn't it have to be R 2.5 or greater for LAN access?

Why not get a used PC with a Serial Port and LAN Port. Then use Remote Desktop or PC Anywhere or whatever other Application you could use with the OS. Would be easier to set up and probably less expensive. This Idea has been posted by Merlinman in past posts and is guarenteed to work.

Socket Magix requires an adapter and software. Not only is it expensive, but it might be hard to find since it's no longer made. It will work with any revision of Legend or Magix because it's IP on the uplink and serial on the downlink.

IP-encapsulated serial traffic can be done with all kinds of boxes, including certain brands of routers. I've written about using reverse telnet with a Cisco in other posts.

However, the suggestion that jinxs makes is perfect. It costs little, is straightforward and very reliable. I love it.

Lantronics and Digi both make IP to serial terminal adapters, I have used them successfully with Definity PBX's, Intuity and Definity Audix, and some Nortel products. I havn't tried it with Legend/Magix yet, but with a 355A or AF adapter and a bit of testing it would probably work. WinSPM 9 has the ability to set an IP address for connect, I havn't looked to see if the parameters are adjustable in SPM, but you only need 2400 N81 for the serial. That is really what you are getting with "Socket Magix" is a terminal adapter, probably re-branded.

Or, do the end-around: set up a PC w/ MS Remote Desktop capability or PC Anywhere as a programming terminal at the end location. Wouldn't take much CPU power, an old 386 laptop would probably do just fine.
