This is my first experiment with an Access2000 project.
I have the desktop version of SQL Server7 on my pc (windows98, second edition) which seems fine.
I have a system dsn set up as "localserver" SQL server connects fine when I connect to a database that I created from Enterprise manager using localserver.

I am attempting to create a new database using ACCESS 2000 as a project and cannot connect. I receive an error that the connection failed.

for this experiment, I have the same login name and a blank password.

Works for SQL Server, fails for Access 2000 project

the first error listed is
SQL state 01000
SQL Server error 53
etc, etc
connection failed

then
SLState 0800
Sql Server error 17
etc etc

I presume that I am missing something pretty basic here but have spent a couple of hours trying to figure this out

Now I am even more confused. I seem to have created a server named "." I am working under the impression that I did this while installing SQL Server 7 on my pc.
When I create the database in Access2000, once I realized that the dropdown combo was not totally blank, but did have a period in it, I was able to make it work.
Sorry. Now I just need to fiqure out how I created this mess.

That's probably another forum though
Sorry to be a pest
