Having a problem trying to determine where/why intermittently connections drop from an AIX server to a Solaris server.
The set up is as such:
AIX - used to access Solaris which has Oracle10G; from the AIX server they issue the command to run queries on the Solaris box
At times, these requests do not 'return' the results after the query has completed. Only at times tho'
have ran tcpdump and snoop on the servers respectively but cannot find any issues

Any ideas on how to 'capture' TCP requests on the AIX server to try to iron out this issue

thanks

Some things to think about.

What application/protocol is being used for communication between hosts ?

Does the communication path traverse a firewall ? if so, you might want to check with your network guys for dropped connections.

If not, then you were in the right place to begin with. Use tcpdump on aix and snoop on solaris to dump raw packets to file, wait for the problem to occur, save the raw files and then analyze the tcp connection and packet flow between hosts using wireshark.

oh, and if the app has logs, check those. Maybe some clues in there.

To add to dial8d comment, check your network buffers as well (send & receive buffers)!

Check the output of netstat -m for (requests for mbufs denied)

Khalid
