Connecting Win98 over VPN

I've installed a VPN between our two offices. The main office has a Windows NT4 server. The remote office currently only has one Windows 98 PC. The VPN seems to work in that from the remote office I can ping the server at the main office. However, I need to be able to map to a network drive on the NT 4 server at the main office from the Windows 98 PC at the remote office...

I'd really appreciate it if you could give me an overview on how to configure the 98 machine to do this.

I've added the details for the NT4 server in the Win98 hosts file, and can ping the server using its name. I've tried using Microsoft networking and setting the Win98 PC to logon to the domain, but it just says no domain server can be found. I'm not sure if I'm just not doing something like setting the correct default network client and domain/workgroup etc, or if it's something more fundamental on the networking/connectivity side. I don't think it's a firewall issue - as far as I can tell, there are currently no restrictions on traffic over the VPN.

the LMHOSTS file, not the HOSTS file is what you need to modify to set up domain connectivity across subnets.

Mind you, I haven't done this across a VPN, just a WAN. I'm hoping the settings you add to LMHOSTS will still be in effect after the VPN is established.

Thanks Griffyn. I updated the firmware on both routers, and then changed the workgroup name on the Win98 PC to be the same as the domain name, and that now works... It asked for the password to access the shares on the NT server, and it automatically re-connects them each time the Win98 PC is rebooted.
