Connecting VoIP phones to Merlin Legend/Magix?

I'm wondering if it is possible to connect some VoIP phones (we have access to a few to experiment with) through our companies LAN to our existing Merlin Legend/Magix system? I've done some searching on the web as well as this forum but haven't come across info that addresses this situation - maybe I haven't searched long/hard enough[sad]

It would simplify adding additional phones to our system if this is possible because of some cabling issues. We do have spare slots in our 3rd carrier if a particular module would be needed. Our servers and phone system live in the same room so cable interconnection would be easy.

This would all be the early prelude to migrating to VoIP phones throughout our physical plant.

Thank you for all your past input, that has allowed me to 'clean up' the operation and functionality of our legacy phone system.

No native IP phones on Legend/Magix. If you want to migrate, I'd install a different system (IP Office maybe) and create a connection to Magix (PRI is what I'd use), allowing you to migrate phones or groups at a measured pace.

Thanks for the response Mike. I had already told our COO that it may not be possible to do the integration - but that I'd check into it.

A Merlin Magix could be used with VoIP service as long as it is connected to some sort of converter to feed it individual POTS lines, T1 with inband signaling or even ISDN (albeit in a limited way).

Thank you all for the guidance/information.

I'm following up on the leads you've provided and will post an update when I've made progress - one way or another.

Okay. So from what I've gathered so far (from my communications & other online research) here is my understanding of the situation.

If we want to utilize our existing PBX (Legend/Magix) to service phones at our remote office we need to:

-Have a PBX gateway at our Main office.
-Have an Extender at our remote office.

-The PBX gateway would need to connect to our existing PBX using:
-A 024 TDL module (Does this require anything additional to utilize? Or plug-n-play?)
-PBX gateway>50 pin RJ21 connector>cable to>punch down block>cable>024 TDL connector

-Or can it be a 50 pin RJ21 to 50 pin RJ21 cable rather than punch down blocks and cross-connecting? (Does the 024 have the same RJ21 connector?)

-To our network LAN with an ethernet cable

-The Extender would need to connect (at remote site):
-To the network (LAN) there with an ethernet cable
-Extender>50 pin RJ21 connector>cable>patch panel
-Use digital telephones (e.g. 4406D+, 4412D+, etc.)>patch panel

-Not using our existing MLX phones because they are not compatible
-Configure ports at PBX for extensions to be used by the 024 TDL/PBX gateway

The LAN connection will actually be a dedicated VLAN between sites.

Does this all make sense?
