Connecting via CONSOLE mode?? How to tell

Using REMOTE DESKTOP CONNECTION you can connect to a Win2k3 server two ways via a Terminal Services Admin session or via CONSOLE

mstsc &
mstsc /console

How can you tell if a user has connected to a server using REMOTE DESKTOP CONNECTION via CONSOLE?

Is there a way of telling via the TSADMIN utility?

I don't think you can you could however logon to the server as console yourself and anyone else will be booted off, you can then see who squeals.

In the TSadmin util, there's the Session column. It states Console if someone is connected to the console and something like RDP-Tcp### if connected with TS.

Oh yes of course it does i was looking on the wrong tab, still the other method is more fun.

Palagast, I thought this was the case.....

If you walk up to a server and log on locally to a Win2k3 Server this will display CONSOLE in the Session Column of the TSADMIN utility.

But if you connect to the CONSOLE using mstsc /console it displays something like RDP-Tcp###.

PorkChop, Looks like your method is the only way of finding this out!!! Unless anyone else has an idea??

When i look in TS manager on mine it says console next to a session but i have to click the 'Sessions' tab at the top, if you look under the 'users' tab then you just get the session id as you say.

Strange, that only happens for me if I stand at the Win2k3 server log on directly to the BOX.

But if I connect via mstsc /console it displays RDP-Tcp###

What version of Win2k3 are you running?

Mine is Win2k3 SP1

2k3 SP1 i'm logged on to the console remotly and that's what it shows.
