Is there any hardware that would let me connect a VCR to an inboard DVD writer in the PC so that I can copy and convert VHS tapes to DVDs? If there is, what kind of software would I need? I have Roxio Classic Suite which will, I believe, create a video DVD.

You generally would want a TV Tuner card which would have a coax input. Most times, software will be present with the card to be able to capture video. If not, VirtualDub will be of use.
