Hey Guys,

My company is opening a small branch office just a couple of blocks from here. I will like to know what will be the best way to connect the two office, I will like them to have internet access and access to the network just like if they were in the main office. I know there are a lot of solutions, but I want to hear your opinions in case I missed something.

Thanks,

Javy

Javy, I am in the same situation ask you. I too would like to know what are some of the solution. We would like to be able to share data from one site to another. Right now we have two DSL line, one for each site. Do I need a Static IP?

What would I need?

I would recommend getting two static ip address for each site. Then you will need to get two VPN routers (same brand) for each site. You can then go through the routers configuration and connect the two sites.

I suggest using private Ip addresses for each site for the workstations and the public ip address will be configured in each site.

EX: network1 192.168.1.X
network2 192.168.2.X
This way all your network traffic can be routed to the correct sites.

It's not neccesary to have Static IP's with outside free dyndns services.

I have a bbs at that you can ask questions on how to use DDNS to connect the two offices, out of time for today or I would walk you through the setup.

Can I just setup my 2kServer as a VPN server and have the other site dial into the server?

I actually have a stand alone server setup for terminal services and people from home access that through VPN connection over the Cisco PIX II 506 firewall, the dsl router we use is the flowpoint 2200. However, people here will like to see something more direct without opening a terminal session. I think a router to router will work and I think I will go for it. Should I also get the same firewall?

Later,

Javy
