Connecting to Xwindow with serial connection HPB160L

I have a HP B160L workstation that I am trying to connect to via Reflection X on my PC. I have connected the 2 via a serial cable, and I can connect to a command line prompt, and log in as root no problem. I have a bit of a catch-22 though:

1) It does not seem possible to connect to the box via a serial connection withouf first removing the mouse and keyboard and rebooting the Unix workstation

2) I cannot run the command xhost +, as I cannot start X on the Unix workstation because there is no keyboard or mouse attached

Anyone got any ideas?
