I am a newbie to linux, and I figured the only way to learn it is to force myself to use it, so I rebuild my workstation using Mandrake 10.0.

I just can't figure out how to connect to windows shares...aka mount them.

I have done google searches, but havn't come up with anything that works, I keep getting errors.

Also, I have read about an ipconfig command but can't seem to find it. Is it included in this distro?

Thanks

Easiest way to go is use smbclient

Also, if you're looking to view your ip info, ifconfig should be present, I don't use mandrake, but it should be there.

Please always take the time to backup any and all data before performing any actions suggested for ANY problem, regardless of how minor a change it might seem. Also test the backup to make sure it is intact.

try this

mount -t smbfs -o username=(yourusername),password=(yourpass) //(ipaddress)/(sharename) /mnt

password is optional, if you don't specify it then you will be prompted to enter it.

:)

And also, bowserj , its ifconfig as mattjurado states, not ipconfig...
