Hello,

I'm having trouble connecting/registering a sql server over a VPN. During the SQL Server Enterprise Manager wizard registration process, I enter in the IP address of the server running sql and get the following error:

SQL server does not exist or access denied.|ConnectionOpen(Connect()

I selected "connect using the windows login info i use to connect to my computer" because I have the same login info as the server running sql.

I've also tried adding a System DSN through the ODBC datasource admin and added an alias in my host file. That still didn't work.

I know for a fact that the SQL server is there and running (I set it up). Why am I getting access denied? What are the steps to successfully register and manage this SQL server using Enterprise Manager?

Also, I've successfully registered this server before in the past. None of my settings changed and now it just doesn't even work anymore. I deleted the registration and have just been trying to add it from scratch.

Thanks in advance for any help.

Make sure the port sql server is using has been opened up in your vpn and or firewall.

The default port is 1433.
