Hello,
I have bough a second hand Cisco 2509 router and I am looking to configure it. Is there any way that I can connect to it. I have the cable to connect from my laptop's COM port to the Console port on the router but I don't know how to telnet to it if I don't know the IP!

Can anyone help me?

At this point you are not going to Telnet to the router. You must configure a hyper-terminal session to connect to the router using the COM port. With hyper-terminal accept all parameters, except speed that must be set to 9600bps.
That's all!

Good to know I was of any help. You are very welcome. By the way, you did very well for a newcomer. Congratulations!
