connecting to oracle

hi
i just want to connect an application with oracle.
My database name is orcl. suppose i want to connect to schema/user scott. How can it be done?
I've connected once before making some changes in tnsname.ora file. just can't remember!
I also searched some of previous threads but nothing help

can somebody please help

Can you please tell us a bit more about your environment?:

...Is the Oracle database (ORCL) on your PC?...Is it on a remote server?
...What operating system is the machine that houses your server?
...What operating system is your client connection on?
...Who created the database?
...Are you the de facto Database Administrator for the target database/instance?
...How much Oracle experience have you?
...With whom do you work that can provide you with technical support?
