Im am trying to migrate the MAC's on our NT network to use Netscape instead of Internet Explorer.
Ive been given the task of protecting our network from virus attacks. Though MACs cant get Nimbus, they can still be carriers, and IE is its way in.

I tried to copy the configuration of IE into Netscape, but it isnt connecting. I have told it to use manual proxy address and have put in the IP address and port (80). I dont think It can be a permissions problem because IE will work. What else do I need to do. I know im missing something, but i cant think what and Im completely new to Netscape and MAC's so I dont know where anything is.

Any instructions or hints would be grately appreiciated

Our network is NT4.0 with SP6a.

You could try going to control panels, TCP/IP. Once open goto edit menu, User mode, change this to advanced. You then have a option called Options in the bottom left hand corner, select.
uncheck Load only when need.

All so while you are there check the tcp/ip settings are right for your system. If you can't fix it in 20 call someone who can.

Thanks MatthewA,
but I dont see how it can be a tcp/ip problem if Internet Explorer works fine with the same control panel-tcpip settings.
What does Load only when need do?
load what?

By default Apple macs only use TCP/IP when needed, not all the time. They use Apple Talk. If you can't fix it in 20 call someone who can.

Do you have a setting for router in the Mac's
tcp control panel? It should be the same
as the local ip on the NT box. Also, some
gimpy NT proxy servers use 8080, 1080 or some
other xx80 port for the internal connection.
And, as MatthewA said, uncheck "load only when needed" in the cont. panel.
